17. Above The Equator

Australia is too big land to understand distance.
It is hard to get the feeling of a long straight road from only Tokyo to Osaka. And the houses that dot this wide land - there is no way to estimate the price of a house and garden from a Japanese room.
I can understand the value of a mansion with heliport and yacht basin , but enen if I was rich enough I would not buy that house because the life style is so different from my Japanese style. Maintenance, repair and decorating must be done by myself. I could not enen maintain a house with a garden if I had them.

A few years ago many Japanese bought homes in Australia. Recently this has calmed down. It is nicer to live in a large home than in a narrow room in Japan. A lot of Japanese were not surprized to hear 13,000 Australian dollars were needed to buy 3.3 square meters in the country but an Australian could not understand it. Why does a Japanese work without a vacation? Why does a Japanese persist for a house and land?
As I can not understand "distance" in Australia, an Australian can not understand "the house" in Japan. After getting a house in Australia a Japanese has other problems like paying off the loan, remodeling, etc. Also he needs a work permit which takes a long time. Meanwhile the living costs in Australia go up. So it is equally difficult to live in a narrow Japan as it is to maintain a house in wide Australia.

After retiring, moving to a nice place and living in a comfortable house .... I think everyone has this dream. But I have a plan to realize it!
First you go to Australia but never to a crowded tourist place with lots of people. Never demand a big house. Rent a room where you can buy sea food without needing a motor boat or helicopter and can watch Japanese programs by satellite television. Don't worry about eruptions, storms, earthquakes or floods. There is no crime, you recognize your neighbors, the water and air are pure. Wear reluxing clothese, get free medical care and, if possible pay no taxes...
I mention only the basic conditions.... I discover long distance of reality!!!

I am admonished by the famous author SOSEKI NATSUME's words
..."it is not comfortable to live in this world. As discontent rises it is hard to manage moving to an easy place. Only enlightenment through composing a poem or creating a picture can save someone."
...
However, I can not attain enlightenment and run after a dream in Australia.
I am sure SOSEKI NATSUME must not be living in Australia. There is surely a comfortable place above the equator in my dream. (BB)
